How to Play
Master the hardwood. Your guide to dominating LuxorLot.
1. Establish Your Dynasty: Create an Account
Getting started on LuxorLot is incredibly simple and entirely free. Sign up for an account using your email address—no credit card or complicated verification is required. We firmly believe that fantasy sports should be accessible to everyone. Once registered, you will be taken to your General Manager dashboard where you can easily browse available public leagues to join immediately, or take the reins as a Commissioner and create a highly customized private league to invite your friends and colleagues to.
2. The Foundation: The Draft
The draft is the most critical and exhilarating part of the fantasy basketball season. It is the foundation upon which your dynasty is built. During a live, online draft, you will take turns selecting 12 players to form your roster. You must carefully balance your selections to fill specific positional requirements designed to mimic real-world NBA rosters:
- 2 Point Guards (PG): The floor generals who rack up assists and steals.
- 2 Shooting Guards (SG): Elite perimeter scorers and three-point specialists.
- 2 Small Forwards (SF): Versatile two-way players who contribute across all statistical categories.
- 2 Power Forwards (PF): Physical enforcers who provide a steady stream of rebounds and high-percentage shots.
- 1 Center (C): The massive anchors of the defense, crucial for securing blocks and controlling the paint.
- 3 Utility/Bench Players (UTIL): Flexible roster spots for any position to provide depth and injury insurance.
Pay close attention to your overarching draft strategy. Will you focus heavily on high-usage, high-scoring guards early in the draft, or will you secure dominant big men who rack up rare defensive statistics like blocks and rebounds? Your strategy will dictate your success.
3. Daily Grind: Managing Your Roster
Unlike fantasy football, fantasy basketball is a daily grind that requires consistent attention. You must set your active starting lineup before the first tip-off of the day. Players lock into their positions as soon as their real-life game begins. You must vigilantly monitor injury reports, rest days (load management), and weekly schedule variations to maximize the number of games your players participate in each week.
4. The Hidden Market: The Waiver Wire
Breakout stars, surprising rookies, and unexpected opportunities happen every single week in the NBA. Use the waiver wire to pick up undrafted free agents who suddenly find themselves playing significant minutes. LuxorLot utilizes a highly strategic Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB) system. You are allocated a budget of $100 for the entire season—you must spend it wisely by placing blind bids on coveted free agents. The highest bidder claims the player.
5. The Art of the Deal: Trading
Improve your roster by negotiating and executing blockbuster trades with other managers in your league. Analyze your opponents' weaknesses and propose mutually beneficial deals. To maintain the integrity of the league and prevent collusion, all trades are subject to a mandatory 24-hour league review period where other managers can vote to veto lopsided transactions.
6. The Ultimate Goal: Winning the Championship
Your objective is simple: utilize your basketball IQ to outscore the opposition. In Season-Long and Head-to-Head leagues, the top-performing teams during the regular season will advance to a high-pressure, single-elimination playoff bracket during the final weeks of the real-world basketball season. Only one manager can claim the ultimate championship title.
